Wanted to blog about the results of the
117th IOC session last nite, but i was too lazy... Haha.
I had spent the whole dae (starting from 1pm) following the live coverage on Channel NewsAsia, watching the presentations of some of the 5 cities (some were in the morning, so i missed them), and holding my breath as i watch Mr Jacques Rogge announce the name of the host city of the summer Olympics in 2012. I was rooting for
Paris, as i thought their bid was juz perfect... Their infrastructure, transport system, accomodation and so on were excellent, and oso not forgetting the rich culture that is unique to the French capital city. I must admit that i felt a huge pang of disappointment when the results were announced, and i was asking everyone, "
Why London? Why not Paris???"
It was later at ard 8+pm that i got to watch the full video clip shown during London's presentation, the one that centers around
children, their asprirations and their Olympic dreams... It moved me to tears, and i slowly began to understand the reason y London won. They realli focused on the aim of inspiring the youths of todae, and keep emphasizing the importance of these young ones... Let's quote
Sebastian Coe, who ended his speech and London's presentation wif this line: "On behalf of the youth of today, the athletes of tomorrow and the Olympians of the future, we humbly submit the bid of London 2012."
Brilliant.
The London team worked realli hard this time, and their never-say-die spirit paid off. Undeniably, the credit must go to the 3 ppl who made it possible: Bid Leader Sebastian Coe, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and oso the famous David Beckham. I must sae that London realli
deserve to win this time round, and i congratulate them on their win. =) As for Paris, hmmm... Paris 2016 or 2020 sounds like not bad an idea.
P.S: It's appalling to hear about the London terror bombings, and my heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones. May the city recover from the attacks soon.
